The majestic Unicorn is a familiar sight to most and a common feature in mythology from ancient Greece to medieval Europe. Commonly depicted as a white horse with a single spiralling horn at the centre of its forehead, it is a symbol of grace and purity. In European folklore the unicorn was portrayed as more goat-like, often with cloven hooves a Goat’s beard.
A Unicorn’s horn was though to cleanse poisoned water and heal the sick, as such it was desired by many and in medieval times unscrupulous peddlers were known to make huge profits by selling the tusk of the Narwhal.
